WRESTLING FIGURES: United Souls comes to Sylviie Tattoo Agency – May 23 & 24 in Toulouse
Share
Since its beginnings, United Souls has invested in living spaces to bring to life the memories of past and present struggles. Cultural cafés, bookstores, creative spaces become, for the time being, spaces of expression where art, commitment and transmission intersect. For this third edition, the brand pushes the walls and invites itself into a place where art and the body come together: the Sylviie Tattoo Agency, in Toulouse . The show transforms for two days into a lively artistic coworking space , where tattoo artists, illustrators, activists and curious people from all walks of life are invited to share a unique moment around visual and bodily commitment.
FRIDAY, MAY 23 — OPENING (6 p.m.–10 p.m.)
The opening on May 23 will be an opportunity to discover the original works that inspired the visuals of United Souls, but also the unique worlds of two of the brand's leading artists:
Marie-Claire Laffaire — A graduate of the Toulouse School of Fine Arts, this illustrator explores memory through drawing. It was through her eyes that United Souls saw the birth of its first portraits of political figures, starting with Patrice Lumumba, whose tragic and prophetic face set the tone. Since then, Marie-Claire has sketched Frantz Fanon, Maya Angelou , Mahmoud Darwich , Simone de Beauvoir , Nina Simone , and many others. These works will be presented and available for sale.
Camille Laforcénée — A designer, engraver, and screen printer, Camille works with materials with unyielding rigor. Very active in the micro-publishing world, she teaches at the Atelier de la Main Gauche in Toulouse. Her collaboration with James Baldwin has been a resounding success.
The Malcolm X visual won't be available for sale yet, but you'll be able to pre-order it in advance on site. It's a way to support the initiative and be among the very first to wear this powerful symbol.
2025 is a symbolic year: the centenaries of Patrice Lumumba, Frantz Fanon, and Malcolm X, three great figures born in 1925, will be celebrated throughout the year. Three voices, one common struggle, one legacy to pass on.
Live Painting
During the evening, three canvases will be created live by the artists of the Sylviie Tattoo Agency. This will be an opportunity to witness the creation of committed works, combining graphic gestures and stances.
