Why did you choose Simone de Beauvoir for the United Souls collection?

United Souls is part of a duty to remember those who have stood up for civil rights in Africa and around the world. The fight for women's rights by Simone de Beauvoir, a French philosopher and essayist, is a prime example.
In her 1949 essay The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir emphasizes: [W]hether it is a question of a race, a caste, a class, a sex reduced to an inferior condition, the processes of justification are the same. The eternal feminine is the counterpart of the black soul and the Jewish character.
United Souls has perceived in Simone de Beauvoir's thought one of the origins of hatred of Man by Man and by extension of racism, namely the difficulty of Man to accept the Other as his equal because of the differences that nature has endowed us - the first difference being that of sex. In a history written by the victors and the dominant, the struggle for the emancipation of the African continent and the equal rights of women come together.
According to United Souls, Simone de Beauvoir's fight is for the awareness of the Other outside of a social diktat established by a stronger party over a weaker party.
Christiane Taubira explains it very well in Laurent Ruquier's show broadcast on June 9, 2018:
United Souls chooses to associate music, a vector of universality between peoples, with each character in the collection. For Simone de Beauvoir, it is inevitable that we will be immersed in the French musical revolution of the 1960s. A time when the surge and freedom of French youth was dubbed “Yéyés” by sociologist Edgar Morin.
United Souls has solicited the discerning ear of Ciriac Olivier, DJ, selector, and digger. A true gold digger of 45 rpm records, CiRiac distils cutting-edge selections of heavy funk, exotica, garage rock, and early reggae. A radio host on CampusFM Toulouse, he broadcasts treasures as rare as they are precious, vinyls that he plays with relevance and passion in his shows Orange Street and Discorama.
