Felabration – Seun Kuti pays tribute to Cheikh Anta Diop

There are moments when music, history and memory come together with luminous clarity.
This encounter is part of it.
In a studio in Chile, the group Newen Afrobeat , global ambassador of Fela's legacy, invites Seun Anikulapo Kuti , son of the legendary creator of Afrobeat.
A vibrant, transcontinental encounter that connects Lagos, Santiago, Dakar and all the shores of the Black Atlantic.
On the program: “Zombie” , a major track by Fela, a political anthem against all forms of blind obedience.
A piece that, fifty years after its creation, continues to resonate like a punch.
But what caught our attention and that of hundreds of thousands of viewers is what Seun Kuti brings to this performance.
A United Souls t-shirt .
And not just any portrait: the portrait of Cheikh Anta Diop ,
a major thinker of the 20th century,
visionary historian,
restorer of Black consciousness,
and an essential figure in our Wrestling Figures collection.
This portrait was created by the artist Olivier Bonhomme , an illustrator with an incisive style and a regular columnist for Le Monde .
Olivier also collaborated with United Souls on the iconography dedicated to Aimé Césaire , the poet of Negritude.
In this video, the tribute is twofold:
Fela through music.
Cheikh Anta Diop through images.
A profound way of reminding us that black culture does not burn out: it is transmitted, it transforms, it spreads.
A performance to listen to with ears wide open , right up to the last note.
