Ahmad Shah Massoud was an Afghan military commander and politician. Known as the “Lion of Panjshir,” he played a major role in the resistance against the Soviet occupation and later in the fight against the Taliban. His journey is inseparable from the contemporary history of Afghanistan and the struggles for its future. He also alerted the international community to the dangers of religious terrorism. Assassinated in 2001, he remains a figure of the Afghan resistance.
