THE LION OF THE PANSHIR

AHMED SHAH MASSOUD (1953-2001) - AFGHANISTAN

Ahmad Shah Massoud, born September 2, 1953, in Afghanistan, was an Afghan military commander and politician. Nicknamed the "Lion of Panjshir," he played a crucial role in the fight against the Soviet occupation and the Taliban. In addition to his military exploits, Massoud was one of the first to alert the international community to the dangers of religious terrorism. A political visionary, he anticipated the rise of Islamic radicalism long before the attacks of September 11, 2001. His assassination in 2001 deprived the world of a courageous leader, while his legacy endures as a symbol of resistance against oppression and a warning of the global threats of terrorism.
