CHEIKH ANTA DIOP (1923-1986) - SENEGAL

A Senegalese historian, anthropologist, Egyptologist, and politician, Cheikh Anta Diop dedicated his research to the history of Africa and its place in global civilization. In Nations nègres et culture, published in 1954, he defended the African origins of Egyptian civilization and challenged racist interpretations of the past. His approach encouraged Africans to produce their own historical and scientific research. A committed Pan-Africanist, he also worked on the cultural unity of Africa and was an activist in Senegalese political life. Having passed away in 1986, he left behind a body of work that continues to fuel debates on history, knowledge, and emancipation. Through this design by Olivier Bonhomme, United Souls pays tribute to his legacy.
