KWAME NKRUMAH (1909-1972) - GHANA

Leader of the struggle for Ghana’s independence, achieved in 1957, Kwame Nkrumah became the country’s first president. A champion of Pan-Africanism, he advocated for a united and sovereign Africa, capable of building its own political and economic future. He helped found the Organization of African Unity in 1963 and denounced neocolonialism. Overthrown in 1966, he left behind a body of thought that continues to fuel debates on the continent's emancipation and unity.
