Shining a light on the freedom to be yourself. Moved by the story of Marielle Franco, watercolor artist Amandine Szczepaniak replaces her afro hairstyle with five Brazilian flowers. In this portrait, blue celebrates life and youth, pink sexuality, purple the spirit, red passion, and orange pride. For the artist, these colors symbolically restore to her—and to the Brazilian people—what racism and imperialist domination stole away. A gesture of hope, so that art may extend her presence beyond time.
Its straight cut and 180 g/m² ring-spun combed organic cotton complement a simple, assertive silhouette. Whether worn with jeans or a skirt, this women’s artist t-shirt gives the portrait a place in everyday encounters: wearing your convictions with elegance, celebrating a living memory. At United Souls, style has meaning.
About Amandine Szczepaniak

AN ICON OF THE AFRO-BRAZILIAN QUEER STRUGGLE
MARIELLE FRANCO (1979-2018) - BRAZIL
Marielle Franco was a politician assassinated on March 14, 2018, in Rio de Janeiro. Born in a favela, she studied sociology and public administration. Within civil society and later the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL), this lesbian activist committed herself to the fight against racism and police violence targeting women and Black minorities. In 2016, she was elected as a Rio city councilor with the fifth-highest vote count, and the highest number of votes for any woman in that position. A rising figure in Brazilian politics committed to fighting corruption, Marielle Franco chaired the Commission for Women’s Rights, making her a target for criminal organizations and the far right. In the days following her assassination, hundreds of thousands of people expressed their outrage across the entire world.
