Dressing the present, letting possibilities bloom. Touched by the story of Marielle Franco, watercolorist Amandine Szczepaniak replaces her afro hairstyle with five Brazilian flowers: blue for life and youth, pink for sexuality, purple for spirit, red for passion, and orange for pride. For the artist, they symbolically restore to her what racism and imperialist domination stole from her, and from the Brazilian people. A tribute that makes art a promise of eternity and memory an impulse of hope.

This washed worker jacket combines a fitted cut with 340 gsm 100% organic cotton fabric. Over a t-shirt, with jeans or dress pants, it gives art a place in an assertive silhouette. An artist's jacket to wear through life's encounters, to share Marielle's memory and radiate her convictions with elegance. At United Souls, style has meaning.

About Amandine Szczepaniak

Following a background in craftsmanship and fashion, Amandine Szczepaniak joined the Beaux-Arts de Toulouse in 2010 and found in watercolor a field for exploring time, between mastery and letting go. Also a storyteller, author, and illustrator, she published her first children's book, "Gaston au Muséum," with l'École des loisirs in 2016. Her work combines image and word, with poetry and humor.

THE ICON OF THE AFRO-BRAZILIAN QUEER STRUGGLE

MARIELLE FRANCO (1979-2018) - BRAZIL

Marielle Franco was a politician assassinated on March 14, 2018, in Rio de Janeiro. Born in a favela, she studied sociology and public administration. Within civil society and later the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL), this lesbian activist campaigned against racism and police violence targeting women and Black minorities. In 2016, she was elected city councilor in Rio with the fifth-highest vote count and the highest number of votes for a woman in that position. A rising figure in Brazilian political life and committed to fighting corruption, Marielle Franco chaired the Women’s Rights Commission, becoming a target for criminal organizations and the far-right. The day after her assassination, hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated their indignation across the world.
