AHMED SHAH MASSOUD (1953-2001) - AFGHANISTAN

Ahmad Shah Massoud, born on September 2, 1953, in Afghanistan, was an Afghan military commander and politician. Nicknamed the "Lion of Panjshir," he played a crucial role in the fight against the Soviet occupation and the Taliban. Beyond his military exploits, Massoud was one of the first to alert the international community to the dangers of religious terrorism. A political visionary, he anticipated the rise of Islamic radicalism well before the September 11, 2001 attacks. His assassination in 2001 deprived the world of a courageous leader, while his legacy persists as a symbol of resistance against oppression and a warning about the global threats of terrorism.
