Color reveals the face, words tell the stories of lives. In Maya Angelou Blue, Marie-Claire Laffaire combines the precision of a realistic portrait with shades of sand and blue. Around the eyes and within the details of the drawing, tiny inscriptions evoke the professions, activities, and commitments of this phenomenal woman: writer, poet, actress, streetcar conductor, dancer, singer, cook, housekeeper, prostitute, pimp, record store clerk, journalist, administrative assistant, university professor, filmmaker, and civil rights activist. A work that invites you to discover Maya Angelou beyond a single identity.

Against a light background, the sandy tones of the portrait harmonize with the hues of the clothing, while touches of blue provide a contrast. With its regular fit and 100% cotton 170 g/m² fabric, this essential unisex artist t-shirt complements a simple outfit, worn with jeans or under an open shirt. The portrait becomes the meeting point between art, memory, and daily life: a way to wear your convictions. At United Souls, style has meaning.

THE POET AND CIVIL RIGHTS FIGHTER

MAYA ANGELOU (1928-2014) - UNITED STATES

Maya Angelou was an activist, poet, novelist, actress, director, and teacher. A victim of violence and trauma in her childhood, literature helped her find the strength to speak again. A key figure in African American cultural life, she also lived in Ghana, where she welcomed Malcolm X. Engaged in the civil rights movement, she lent a strong, unique, and literary voice to document the life of a Black woman in segregationist America through seven autobiographical books and her poetry. The bestseller I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, published in 1970, is the first volume of her memoirs, written under the advice of James Baldwin. Included in school curricula, Maya Angelou's work is emblematic of a struggle for equality, justice, and respect that continues to this day.
