The softness of the colors, the strength of a journey. In Maya Angelou Blue, Marie-Claire Laffaire combines sand and blue shades with the precision of a realistic portrait. Against a light background, the face and the botanical setting stand out from the fabric, while tiny inscriptions invite you to discover the multiple lives of Maya Angelou: writer, poet, actress, streetcar conductor, dancer, singer, cook, maid, prostitute, madam, music shop clerk, journalist, administrative assistant, university professor, filmmaker, and civil rights activist. A phenomenal woman whose story can be read even in the details of the design.

With its straight cut and 180 g/m² 100% organic ring-spun combed cotton fabric, this women's artist t-shirt pairs just as well with jeans as it does with a skirt or an open jacket. The sand and blue portrait becomes the meeting point between everyday attire and a memory to be shared. Wearing a work of art also means giving way to a voice: the art of wearing your convictions. At United Souls, style has meaning.

THE POET AND CIVIL RIGHTS FIGHTER

MAYA ANGELOU (1928-2014) - UNITED STATES

Maya Angelou was an activist, poet, novelist, actress, director, and teacher. A victim of violence and trauma in her childhood, literature helped her find the strength to speak again. An essential figure in African American cultural life, she also lived in Ghana, where she hosted Malcolm X. Committed to the civil rights movement, she made her strong, unique, and literary voice heard to recount the life of a Black woman in segregationist America through seven autobiographical books and poetry. The bestseller I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, published in 1970, is the first volume of her memoirs, written under the advice of James Baldwin. Part of the school curriculum, Maya Angelou’s work is emblematic of a fight that must continue for equality, justice, and respect.
