An essential for dressing, a color to convey a message. This United Souls t-shirt features Lumumba Color: the portrait of Patrice Lumumba drawn by Marie-Claire Laffaire, enhanced by a pastel veil. The softness of this color meets the determination of his gaze, giving new sensitivity to the founding design of the collection.

With its regular fit and 170 g/m² cotton, this piece pairs perfectly with jeans or slides under a jacket. Black, navy blue, burgundy, violet, chocolate, dark heather gray, or military green: the garment's shades complement your silhouette. The pastel veil is part of the portrait itself, regardless of the color chosen. An everyday piece faithful to the United Souls conviction: style has meaning.

A creation by Marie-Claire Laffaire

Trained at the Fine Arts School of Toulouse, Marie-Claire Laffaire worked in architectural illustration and poster design before dedicating her artistic practice to memory through drawing. Her portrait of Patrice Lumumba, created with pencil using a subtractive technique, makes this pursuit resonate with the history of United Souls: preserving a gaze, transmitting a memory, and keeping a struggle for emancipation alive.

Lumumba Color extends this drawing with a veil of pastel colors. This version is distinct from the black and white of Lumumba Classic and the Pop Art design by Fred Ebami. For United Souls, the softness of the color engages in a dialogue with the strength of the gaze and the hope for a free and sovereign Congo.

THE MARTYR OF INDEPENDENCE

PATRICE EMERY LUMUMBA (1925-1961) - DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO

A major figure in Congolese independence, Patrice Lumumba became Prime Minister in 1960. His speech on June 30th denounced the violence and humiliations of Belgian colonialism. In a country beset by crisis and foreign interference, he defended the sovereignty of the Congo and a pan-African vision of emancipation. Arrested and then assassinated in January 1961 along with Maurice Mpolo and Joseph Okito, he remains a figure of memory and resistance, a symbol of independence that must be defended beyond its proclamation.
