The softness of the colors, the strength of a gaze. This unisex United Souls t-shirt features Lumumba Color: the portrait of Patrice Lumumba drawn by Marie-Claire Laffaire, enhanced by a pastel veil. The color brings a new sensibility to the collection's founding design, without erasing the memory or determination it carries.

With its regular fit and 180 g/m² organic cotton, this model can be worn with jeans or under a jacket. Heather grey, sand, peach, pink, lavender, or white: the garment's shades complement the artwork. The pastel veil is part of the portrait itself, not just the t-shirt color. A way to combine the pleasure of dressing up with the desire to convey a message: style has meaning.

A creation by Marie-Claire Laffaire

Trained at the Fine Arts School of Toulouse, Marie-Claire Laffaire worked in architectural illustration and poster design before dedicating her artistic practice to memory through drawing. Her portrait of Patrice Lumumba, created with a charcoal removal technique, resonates with the history of United Souls: preserving a gaze, transmitting a memory, and keeping a fight for emancipation alive.

Lumumba Color extends this drawing with a veil of pastel colors. This version stands out from the black and white of Lumumba Classic and the Pop Art drawing by Fred Ebami. For United Souls, the softness of the color dialogues with the strength of the gaze and the hope of a free and sovereign Congo.

THE MARTYR OF INDEPENDENCE

PATRICE EMERY LUMUMBA (1925-1961) - DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO

A major figure of Congolese independence, Patrice Lumumba became Prime Minister in 1960. His speech on June 30th denounced the violence and humiliations of Belgian colonialism. In a country plagued by crisis and foreign interference, he defended the sovereignty of the Congo and a pan-African vision of emancipation. Arrested and then assassinated in January 1961 alongside Maurice Mpolo and Joseph Okito, he remains a figure of memory and resistance, a symbol of an independence that must be defended beyond its proclamation.
