Engaged art also comes in a relaxed version. This unisex Lumumba Pop Art sweatshirt features a creation by Fred Ebami: a portrait that symbolically restores the colors and emblems of his country to Patrice Lumumba. An artistic, militant, and elegant sweatshirt, designed to keep a memory alive through everyday gestures.

In black or navy blue, its relaxed fit lends itself to an outfit with jeans or as a contrast with dressier trousers. Its 281.42 g/m² fabric combines 85% organic cotton and 15% recycled polyester. The set-in sleeves and half-moon detail at the back complete this piece, which can be worn alone or under a jacket. At United Souls, style has meaning.

A creation by Fred Ebami

A French-Cameroonian artist, Fred Ebami signs a colorful and engaged Pop Art portrait. Initiated on the occasion of the return of Patrice Lumumba's relic to the Congo, this creation carries an intent of reappropriation: to symbolically restore to Lumumba the colors and emblems of his country that imperialism had confiscated from him. The Congolese colors and the symbolism of the leopard reaffirm his belonging to his country.

Permanently integrated into the United Souls collection, Lumumba Pop Art is a distinct design from Marie-Claire Laffaire's pencil portrait used for Lumumba Classic and Lumumba Color, and not simply a coloring of it. A different artistic expression, to convey the same memory of resistance and sovereignty.

THE MARTYR OF INDEPENDENCE

PATRICE EMERY LUMUMBA (1925-1961) - DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO

A major figure of Congolese independence, Patrice Lumumba became Prime Minister in 1960. His June 30th speech denounced the violence and humiliations of Belgian colonialism. In a country torn by crisis and foreign interference, he defended the sovereignty of the Congo and a pan-African vision of emancipation. Arrested and then assassinated in January 1961 along with Maurice Mpolo and Joseph Okito, he remains a figure of memory and resistance, a symbol of an independence that must be defended beyond its proclamation. In June 2022, Belgium returned a tooth of Lumumba to the Congo.
