Lumumba Is Back. Recovering the colors, reclaiming his rightful place. This unisex United Souls t-shirt features Lumumba Pop Art, a creation by Fred Ebami initiated on the occasion of the return of Patrice Lumumba’s relic to the Congo. Its intention: to symbolically restore to Lumumba the colors and emblems of his country that imperialism had confiscated from him.

Available in black, navy blue, dark heather gray, burgundy, or anthracite, the garment’s dark tones complement the vibrant energy of the artwork. Its regular fit and 180 g/m² organic cotton can be worn with jeans or under a jacket. An artistic, activist, and elegant t-shirt to choose as much for the strength of its design as for what it conveys. At United Souls, style has meaning.

A creation by Fred Ebami

Franco-Cameroonian artist Fred Ebami gives form to this intention in a colorful and committed Pop Art portrait. The Congolese colors and the symbolism of the leopard reaffirm Lumumba’s belonging to his country. More than just a tribute, United Souls sees it as an act of reappropriation: restoring a presence, an identity, and a place to the man whose fight for sovereignty remains alive.

"Lumumba Is Back" expresses this return through art. Initiated on the occasion of the return of his relic, this new creation makes color an act of memory and affirmation. Integrated permanently into the United Souls collection, Lumumba Pop Art is a distinct design from the pencil portrait by Marie-Claire Laffaire used for Lumumba Classic and Lumumba Color, and not simply a colorized version of it.

THE MARTYR OF INDEPENDENCE

PATRICE EMERY LUMUMBA (1925-1961) - DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO

A major figure of Congolese independence, Patrice Lumumba became Prime Minister in 1960. His speech on June 30th denounced the violence and humiliations of Belgian colonialism. In a country beset by crisis and foreign interference, he defended the sovereignty of the Congo and a Pan-African vision of emancipation. Arrested and then assassinated in January 1961 along with Maurice Mpolo and Joseph Okito, he remains a figure of memory and resistance, a symbol of independence that must be defended beyond its proclamation. In June 2022, Belgium returned a tooth of Lumumba to the Congo.
