A creation by Fred Ebami

Franco-Cameroonian artist Fred Ebami delivers a colorful and engaged Pop Art portrait. Initiated upon the return of Patrice Lumumba’s relic to the Congo, this creation carries an intent of reclamation: symbolically returning to Lumumba the colors and emblems of his country that imperialism had confiscated from him. The Congolese colors and the symbolism of the leopard reaffirm his belonging to his country.

Permanently integrated into the United Souls collection, Lumumba Pop Art is a distinct design from Marie-Claire Laffaire's pencil portrait used for Lumumba Classic and Lumumba Color, not merely a coloring of it. A different artistic expression, to convey the same memory of resistance and sovereignty.

THE MARTYR OF INDEPENDENCE

PATRICE EMERY LUMUMBA (1925-1961) - DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO

A major figure in Congolese independence, Patrice Lumumba became Prime Minister in 1960. His speech on June 30th denounced the violence and humiliations of Belgian colonialism. In a country beset by crisis and foreign interference, he defended the sovereignty of the Congo and a Pan-African vision of emancipation. Arrested and then assassinated in January 1961 alongside Maurice Mpolo and Joseph Okito, he remains a figure of memory and resistance, a symbol of an independence that must be defended beyond its proclamation. In June 2022, Belgium returned a tooth of Lumumba to the Congo.
