A committed perspective to carry into daily life. Jay Ramier, alias Jay One, a pioneer of Parisian street art, pays tribute to René Vautier in a drawing punctuated by stripes in the background. They give the portrait its movement and evoke the history that runs through it—that of a filmmaker who chose to show the realities of French colonialism.
Filming what one would prefer to leave out of the frame, bearing witness despite censorship, and challenging dominant narratives: this drawing extends the memory of a cinema of resistance. The image becomes a way of looking at history differently and refusing to look away.
This unisex René Vautier artist sweatshirt combines organic cotton and recycled polyester in a relaxed fit. Worn with jeans or over a t-shirt, it accompanies your days while giving prominence to Jay One’s design and the commitment of a fighting filmmaker.

THE FIGHTING FILMMAKER
RENÉ VAUTIER (1928-2015) - FRANCE
A Breton director and filmmaker born in 1928 to a working-class father and a schoolteacher mother, René Vautier joined the Resistance at fifteen and received several decorations for his service. After graduating in 1948 from the IDHEC (Institute for Advanced Cinematographic Studies), he went to the Ivory Coast to fulfill a commission for the French League of Education, which wanted to show French students “how the villagers of French West Africa live.”
Upon his arrival in Abidjan, Vautier decided to film the crimes of French colonialism and the looting of resources with his camera in hand. As the first French anticolonialist film, Afrique 50 earned him a prison sentence and was censored for over forty years in France. A communist militant who participated in the maquis in Algeria—where he produced several documentary works, including Avoir 20 ans dans les Aurès—and later a pioneer of engaged, popular, and independent cinema, René Vautier remained a fighting filmmaker until his death in 2015.
