A vibrant portrait, a political target. Alejandra de la Torre depicts Salvador Allende in a fresh, colorful drawing. On the left lens of his glasses, a cross disrupts this apparent lightness. This motif, recurring in the artist's work, takes on the meaning of a target here: Allende, the man to be brought down by imperialism.
The contrast between the vitality of the colors and this sign of threat gives the portrait its tension. It keeps Allende’s memory alive while recalling the violence directed against the political project he embodied. Wearing this drawing means passing on this history and refusing to let it fade away.
This unisex organic cotton Salvador Allende artist t-shirt complements your daily outfits with its classic fit. Worn with jeans or under an open jacket, it gives full prominence to the portrait and the memory it carries.

THE CHILEAN WAY TO SOCIALISM
SALVADOR ALLENDE (1908-1973) - CHILE
Salvador Allende was the first president democratically elected on a socialist platform. This was the famous “Chilean way to socialism.” He was the first head of state of a non-communist country to be democratically elected with a Marxist platform. The central objective of his program was the redistribution of wealth through the nationalization of raw materials, including copper. This was one of the reasons why the Richard Nixon administration involved the United States in the coup d'état of September 11, 1973, to overthrow the existing government and establish the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. In the radio address that Allende managed to broadcast from La Moneda (the presidential palace) under the bombs of the coup plotters, he said, just before sacrificing himself, that he was confident in the future. The seeds sown in the conscience of the Chilean people could not be uprooted by force. Half a century later, in May 2021, the Chilean people voted for radical structural reform and an end to neoliberalism. It is one of the greatest victories for the left since the end of the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship!
