THE THEORIST OF FEMINISM
SIMONE DE BEAUVOIR (1908-1986) - FRANCE
A major figure of the 20th century, Simone de Beauvoir was a committed intellectual, author, philosopher, and pioneer of modern feminism. In 1949, she disrupted the established order with The Second Sex , a seminal work in which she dismantled the mechanisms of patriarchal domination and affirmed: "One is not born a woman, one becomes one." Through this radical analysis of the female condition, she echoed all forms of oppression—gender, class, or race. In 1954, she received the Prix Goncourt for The Mandarins, but her fight never stopped at literature. Free, united, and unyielding, she inspired entire generations to think about equality, question norms, and build a more just world. Her legacy, still alive, illuminates the struggles of yesterday and today.
